English 10 Block 1: Homework for Tuesday
  • Review these notes on subject-verb agreement and pronoun antecedent agreement for Wednesday's "agreement" test!
  • If nor finished, complete (in full sentences) these questions for "The Michelle I Know":
    • 1. Is Michelle’s self-pity justified? Explain. 
    • 2. What factors have contributed to Michelle’s isolation and withdrawal? Consider her situation but also her own behaviour.
    • 3. How is Michelle a dynamic character? Explain.
    • 4. What is the turning point (or climax) of the story? Why?
    • 5. This story’s point of view is 3rd person limited omniscient. With a specific example, explain why.
    • 6. What is the theme of this story? [The theme is the main lesson from the story. Try to focus on Michelle’s central challenge, a challenge that most of us may probably face at some time or another.]

  • Read Maya Angelou's narrative essay "Grandmother's Victory". We'll write a short comprehension quiz on Monday about this essay.
