Planning 10 Online Block 1: Homework for Thursday
  • Don't forget that the Mod. 2 Project is now going to be finished at the end Module 3. Here is a description of the final project.
  • Section 3.1 should be finished by Friday, Dec. 11.
  • Section 2.3 should have been finished by Thursday, Dec. 3.
English 12 Block 2: Homework for Thursday
  • Bring your cans for the canned food drive!
  • Read Leo Tolstoy's "The Three Hermits" and be ready for a quiz tomorrow. Also, review the notes on didactic writing.
  • For Wednesday, make sure you completed a good copy complex paragraph in response to the following prompt: Compare and contrast the novel and movie versions of The Great Gatsby (TGG).
  • For Wednesday, did you finish your questions for Tobias Wolff's "Say Yes"?
    • Answer in full sentences only!
      • 1. Explain the argument that Ann and her husband are having. (2)
      • 2. Is the husband a sincere man, or is he deludinghimself? Explain with reasons. (3)
      • 3. The story is told in the 3rd person limited omniscient point of view. Which character’s perspective is this story told from? Why do you think Wolff made this choice? (2)
      • 4. Explain what you believe to be the central theme of the story. What insight into the human condition is being offered? (3)
      • 5. Nothing is by accident in a short story. Explain what the dogs or the dishwater might symbolize. (2)

English 10 Block 3: Homework for Thursday
  • Finish the 2nd poetry assignment:
    • Choose a different poem from our 11x17 handout and explain in a paragraph the atmosphere of the poem. Write a topic sentence, a body (with 2-3 specific examples of the atmosphere/mood), and a concluding sentence.
    • OR
    • Draw an image that resembles the imagery from different poem from our 11x17 handout. Write a 1-2 sentence explanation of that image and include 2-3 quotes which describe that image. Look for descriptive words, figurative language and sound devices.
  • Finish the first of many paragraphs in our poetry unit. 
    • Choose one poem from our 11x17 handout and explain the theme of the poem.
