English 12 (S2) Blocks 2/4Homework for Tuesday

    English 10 Block 3Homework for Tuesday
    • Next Wednesday we'll write the subject-verb (and pronoun) agreement test.
    • Finish your questions for "Belonging to the Dragon":
      • 1. In the first few sentences, there’s a subtle clue that something is going to go wrong. Explain this foreshadowing. (2)
      • 2. Allusion is defined as an indirect or passing reference to a well-known character from mythology, the Bible or popular culture. Describe the allusion in the second paragraph. (2)
      • 3. Starla is obviously a rounded character. Explain 
      • why. (2)
      • 4. Identify and explain one stock (i.e. stereotypical) character in the story. (2)
      • 5. What is the full point of view of this story? Explain with one specific example. (2)
      • 6. Explain the situational irony in the final sentence. (2)
    • If not completed, finish Will Baker's "Grace Period" and answer questions 2,3,4 and 6 on the back page in full sentences.

      English 12 Linear Block 1: Homework for Tuesday
      • I've changed my mind! On Friday we finished watching the latest movie version of The Great Gatsby. We'll write the Part 3 test on Tuesday.
      • For the final test, consider the following issues:
        • What's your opinion of Gatsby's character?
        • Who really killed Gatsby?
        • How does the lost generation apply to the characters in The Great Gatsby?
        • How are the novel and film versions different? How are they the same?
      • If not completed, finish the Chp. 9 notes for The Great Gatsby.
        • Use either quote notes or a mindmap.
