- Monday is a big day! We'll write the editing exam that we've been working toward all term. For your review, complete the following:
- Re-read all of your grammar handouts, as well as your spelling list and titles worksheet.
- Study as many of the grammar sites available on my grammar site as possible.
- Take the following online editing quizzes.
- Read Joan Didion's "The Metropolitan Cathedral of San Salvador" and answer the following questions for Tuesday:
- 1. What do we learn about the Central American country of El Salvador and its capital city, San Salvador, in the 1980’s? Explain with examples.
- 2. What mistake does Didion make regarding her comment about spending time in church?
- 3. What is the condition of the Metropolitan Cathedral? Why is it in this condition?
- 4. Why do you think Didion is happy that so many people dislike the condition of the cathedral? [This is a challenge!]
- 5. In which ways is this a descriptive essay? Be specific.
- Did you write last Wednesday's in-class essay? If not, see me soon! The term ends next Friday!
English 10 Block 3: Homework for Monday
- Review the Act 1 Prologue and the first four pages of 1.1 (Act 1, Scene 1) of Romeo and Juliet.
- Review this section via the No Fear Romeo and Juliet website. Re-read the original Shakespearian text and then read the modern English interpretation.
English 12 Linear Block 1: Homework for Monday
- For Monday, your character traits poster project is due. Choose one of the main characters in The Great Gatsby and identify five important character traits. Then, find a quotation in the novel that represents each trait. Create a short paragraph that describes each trait and place them on a poster with a border, a title, and at least one graphic.
