English 12 (S2) Blocks 2/4: Homework for Thursday
- Did you miss Wednesday's in-class comparison essay?
- Compare and contrast "The Tyranny of the Clock" and "If Hitler Asked..."
- Compare and contrast "I Have a Dream" and "Death and Justice".
- You may use an outline and your quotations sheet.
- Choose eight quotes (two each from the four essays) that exemplify each essay's key thesis and writing style. Write them down with an introduction (using one of the three blending styles) and then cite them with the MLA system.
- Read both "If Hitler Asked..." (P. Mayer) and "I Have A Dream" M.L. King) from the essay booklet and write one page of point-form notes for each of the essays. Focus on topic/thesis, major points, key examples, stylistic devices and types of writing.

- Did you do the in-class test on Luisa Valenzuela's "The Censors"? Take notes on plot, characters, themes and symbols.
- If not finished, read William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" and complete this handout.
