English 11 Blocks 1/2: Homework for Wednesday

English 12 Block 3: Homework for Wednesday
  • Did you miss Tuesday's in-class essay? You will write on one of two possible topics:
    • 1st topic:
      • A) Compare and contrast “Tyranny of the Clock” and “If Hitler Asked…”
    • 2nd topic:
      • B) Compare and contrast “I Have A Dream” and “Lifeboat Ethics”
  • For the essay, you can bring the quotations sheet (see below) and an outline. Be ready for both topics!!!
  • Finish your brainstorming for both essay topics.* Use a T-chart with similarities and differences if you're unsure. Compare using the topics of types of writing, stylistic devices, thesis and examples/evidence/key arguments.
  • Complete the quotation assignment: Find two quotes for each of the four essays, for a total of 8 quotes. Each quote should be introduced in your own words using one of the three blending methods I've taught you, and then cited using the MLA system [e.g. "..." (Smith 456).]
  • If not done, finish your 2nd set of point form notes on either "I Have a Dream" or "If Hitler Asked...". The notes will be given a completion mark for tomorrow.
