English 12 Block 1: Homework for Monday
  • Read Maya Angelou's "Grandmother's Victory" and be ready for a multiple choice quiz on Monday. Consider the issue of dignity.
  • If not done, finish the following questions for "Death and Justice":
    • 1. In a full sentence, state the name of the author & the title of the essay. (1)
    • 2. Explain the author's central thesis. (2)
    • 3. Explain three major points or reasons that the author uses to support the thesis. (3)
    • 4. Explain one stylistic device used by the author. (2)
    • 5. Evaluate the essay. What did you like or not like? (2)
    • 6.  What makes this an argumentative essay? (2)
  • If not finished, read George Woodcock's "The Tyranny of the Clock" and complete the following alt. assignment:
    • In a full paragraph and with at least two properly blended and cited quotations, explain why “The Tyranny of the Clock?” is an expository essay. You may provide a complex response.
  • If not done, read “What is poverty?” and finish the following alt. assignment for Wednesday:
    • In a full paragraph and with at least two properly blended and cited quotations, explain why “What is Poverty?” is (or isn’t) an expository essay. You may provide a complex response.

English 9 Block 2: Homework for Monday
  • Make sure all four mini-paragraphs for the poetry annotation project are finished and typed.
  • Miss the poetry test? Review your poetry notes and crossword for the poetry test. If you're up for the challenge, read my online poetry notes for Grades 11/12! :-) Also, review the themes of each of the five poems we studied as a class.
