English 10 Blocks 1/2: Homework for Monday
  • Re-read Acts 2 and 3 of Romeo and Juliet. Read the sidebars along the way.
    • Feel free to use the No Fear Shakespeare site for Romeo and Juliet.
    • Finish the Act 2 study guide AND the Act 3 study guide.
    • The Acts 2 and 3 test will be written Monday!
      • Consider the following issues:
        • How are Friar Laurence and the Nurse, respectively, father and mother figures to Romeo and Juliet?
        • Why is Act 3 the climax of the play? What happens in Act 3 that changes the direction of the story?

English 12 Block 3: Homework for Monday
  • Read (and re-read if necessary) Maya Angelou's "Grandmother's Victory". Be ready for a short multiple choice quiz on Monday.
  • If you missed the original assignment, answer the following alternate assignment for Garrett Hardin's "Lifeboat Ethics". 
    • i. Explain, in a full paragraph, the thesis of Hardin's argument, and three arguments he uses to support his thesis. In your conclusion, explain what you like or don't like about his argument.
  • If you missed the quiz for George Woodcock's "The Tyranny of the Clock", please complete the following paragraph as an alternate assignment:
    • What is Woodcock's thesis regarding the clock? Provide at least three specific and fully explained reasons.
  •  Did you miss Jo Goodwin Parker's "What is poverty?"
    • Answer the following question in paragraph form as an alternate assignment:
      • How does Jo Goodwin Parker explain poverty to the reader? Consider her examples AND techniques. Why is her essay so effective?

  • Read (and re-read if necessary) Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour". Be ready for a short multiple choice quiz on Monday.
