English 11 Block 1: Homework for Tuesday
  • If not done, finish your narrative paragraph on one of the following questions: 
    • Describe…
    • 1. your favourite field trip;
    • 2. starting a new school;
    • 3. an experience that was hard but ended up being worth it;
    • 4. the end of a friendship or relationship.
      • 7-15 sentences
      • 2-4 intro. transitions
      • organize chronologically
      • draft quality (edited rough copy)
      • Feel free to use "I" and "my", but not "you".
      • Remember , this is a short anecdote. We'll do full-blown narrative essays later.
  • Please hand in your parental letter and ensure your binder has three labelled divider tabs (GrammarWriting and Fiction). The letter is worth 10 marks and the labelled tabs are worth 5 marks.

  • Complete your introductory paragraph for the following essay topic:
    • Should 16 year-olds be considered adults, children or something in-between?
  • If not completed, finish your 3rd paragraph on one of the following topics:
    • Should 16 year-olds...

    • iv. be allowed to join the military without parental permission?
    • v. have the right to medical privacy?
    • vi. be allowed to smoke?

English 12 Block 4 Linear: Homework for Tuesday
  • For Friday, complete the following questions for Joan Didion's "The Metropolitan Cathedral In San Salvador":
    • 1. What do we learn about the Central American country of El Salvador and its capital city, San Salvador, in the 1980’s? Explain with examples.
    • 2. What mistake does Didion make regarding her comment about spending time in church? 
    • 3. What is the condition of the Metropolitan Cathedral? Why is it in this condition? 
    • 4. Why do you think Didion is happy that so many people dislike the condition of the cathedral?  [This is a challenge!]
    • 5. In which ways is this a descriptive essay? Be specific. 
      • Answer in full sentences. Ensure your answers are full and thorough. Hand in your answers on a separate piece of paper.
