English 11 Block 1: Homework for Thursday
- Read "The Painted Door" to the end. (Use this online version if you want.) Be ready for a multiple choice quiz tomorrow. Also, study your notes on POV and characters.
- If you missed it, read "The Sound of Hollyhocks" for Tuesday's multiple choice quiz.
- Focus on the characters, resolution, conflict, and POV.

English 10 Blocks 2/3: Homework for Thursday
- Read "Another Evening at the Club" and finish the following questions in full sentences:
- 1. Why does the setting help determine this story? In other words, how could certain events happen in Egypt and not in Canada?
- 2. In this story the conflict emerges slowly. What is the main conflict? Explain.
- 3. What do you think the climax of the story is? Explain. [There may be more than one right answer.]
- 4. Are you sympathetic to Samia, the wife? Why or why not?
- 5. Why do you think people are too often unwilling to admit error or take responsibility for their own mistakes?
- Did you miss the first vocab test? Study your first four vocab sheets for a 20 mark vocabulary test. All 60 words from the first 4 spelling lists are potential words on the test!
- If you missed Monday's Maus II test, see Mr. Koehn ASAP!
- There will be a paragraph on the 2nd test. Consider the following topics:
- What was daily life like in Auschwitz? What were the living conditions and difficulties that Vladek faced?
- Describe Vladek's personality as an elderly man (i.e. as Artie knows him).
- How was Vladek a survivor?
- Look for specific examples!
English 12 Block 4 Linear: Homework for Friday
- Give me a hard copy of your paragraph. It must respond in a pro-con fashion to the following question: Is capital punishment justified?
- If you were away, drop by and get the handout on gender biased language.
- If not done, read George Woodcock's "The Tyranny of the Clock" and complete the SAT analysis sheet handed out in class and be ready for MC quiz on the essay.
- Questions 2-5 of the SAT analysis sheet should be in full sentences and in your own words!
