 English 12 Block 1:

  • Read Chp. 12 of Under the Ribs of Death (UTROD) and finish Part 2. Complete the Part 2 study and vocab guide, particularly the vocab words. Write as much detail as possible. The Part 2 test (Chps. 6-12) will be written on Thursday, Sept. 29. Monday, Oct. 3.
    • Complete the Part 2 UTROD crossword.
    • Read your notes of the literary devices of UTROD.
    • Consider the following issues:
      • Why is Alex a rounded, complex, and ambiguous character?
      • What are the challenges the Hunters face as immigrants in parts 1 and 2?
      • What kind of specific conflicts does Alex face in parts 1 and 2?
  • Did you miss the UTROD #1 Test? See me ASAP!
    • It covers the main characters, events and vocabulary of Chps. 1-5. It consists of multiple choice and matching of vocabulary.
  • Grammar:
  • Please have your parent or guardian sign your parental welcoming letter!
  • Divide your binder using three labeled dividers: Grammar/Writing /Units.

English 9 Block 2:

  • Create a 2nd rough copy paragraph that answers the following prompt: How does technology undermine our lives?
    • Using the documentary below, the stories we've read, and your own experience with digital technology, create a T-chart on one piece of paper. On one side, write Positives; on the other, write Negatives. In point form, write down as many examples you can think of regarding the positives and negatives of technology.
    • Now, take a look at the Negatives side. Group your examples into three different categories. Use this categorization website as a guide.
    • Review the basics of the paragraph.
    • Write the paragraph.
      • 7-12 sentences
      • TS/Body/CS
      • no line breaks
      • place your strongest example at the end of the body 
  • If not finished, write the first rough copy paragraph that answers the following prompt: How does technology enhance our lives?
  • Finish watching the following documentary, Digital Nation:
