 Term 3 ended on Friday, April 14. See me this week if you're missing anything!


English 11 Block 1:

  • For Tuesday
    • We continued our punctuation unit today by examining commas.
    • Also examine the following:
    • We're nearing the end of our media literacy unit. We're exploring concepts like media, propaganda, disinformation, "fake news", and reliability. Today we finished examining Parts A and C of our handout. Read both sections and highlight the key points. Also read the extra sections in the back.
    • Did you miss the subject-verb agreement test? 
  • Long term
    • Have you not finished your technology essay? Did you miss the "Fragments and Run-Ons" and "Parts of the Sentence" tests? If so, see me ASAP!


    English 12 Block 2:

    • For  Tuesday
      • Finish your brainstorms for your two chosen essay topics. Use a list method or a mind-map for each topic. 2 x5 marks = 10 marks total.
    • Long term
      • Did you miss the editing test? The spelling test? 


    Philosophy 12 Block 3: 

    • For Tuesday
      • Finish all the Metaphysics 1 questions for Tuesday.
      • Most recent journal questions:
        • (#12) If you could choose the sex and physical appearance of your soon-to-be-born child, would you do it? Why or why not? Would it make a difference if we were talking about diseases like Parkinson’s?
        • (#11): A close friend, Jane, asks – and genuinely wants – your opinion about something, but your opinion is one that she is likely to find quite painful. For example, Jane is an artist, and asks for your honest estimate of her chances of being successful. You think Jane is an atrocious artist who hasn’t the slightest chance of success. What would you do?
        • (#10):  You are the captain of a 20-crew submarine that’s lying on the seabed. Its engines are destroyed. Rescue is three days away. There’s only enough air for five people over that three-day span. What do you decide? What’s the rationale for your decision? 
      • We marked this today! Complete the following questions for George Woodcock's "Tyranny of the Clock" (from 75 Readings Plus):
        • 1. According to Woodcock, what is the difference between the ancient and modern western definitions of time? (2)
        • 2. Which group in society embraced and encouraged the new conception of time? Why? (2)
        • 3. Why can we conclude that Woodcock is an anarchist? Explain. (2)
        • 4. Why is the clock a potential threat to our autonomy? (2)
      • Did you miss the ethics test on Thursday, April 6? If so, see me ASAP.


    English 11 Block 4 (Day 2):
     

    • For Wednesday
      • Read Chps. 18 and 19 of October Sky. Continue the Part 3 study guide and review the vocabulary words.
      • If you were away today, complete pp. 141/142 of the capitalization package. We're writing a capitalization test on April 27, which is only 2 classes away!
      • Did you miss the Part 2 test? Finish reading Chp. 10 and 11 of October Sky. Finish the Part 2 study guide and study your vocabulary. Complete filling in the back theme topics. You can use this part for the test. 
      • Did you miss the SVA test? The Part 1 October Sky test? See me ASAP!
