- Read “Say Yes” by Tobias Wolff. Then, answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper:
- 1. Explain the argument that Ann and her husband are having. (2)
- 2. Is the husband a sincere man, or is he deluding (kidding) himself? Explain with reasons. (2)
- 3. The story is told in the 3rd person limited omniscient point of view. Which character’s perspective is this story told from? Why do you think Wolff made this choice? (2)
- 4. Explain what you believe to be the central theme of the story. What insight into the human condition is being offered? (2)
- 5. Nothing is by accident in a short story. Explain what the dogs or the dishwater might symbolize. (2)
- Answer in full sentences only! Don’t start with “To”, “Because”, “That” or “So”.
- Review these sites (one and two) on "subject and predicate".
