 English 11 Block 1: Homework for Tuesday

  • If not finished, complete your "quad" notes on the two websites below. Give me at least 4-6 detailed points for each website on (1) what makes this site an obvious fake, and (2) what makes this site a good fake? /20
  • We've finished our third note set on media literacy AND a crossword. Make sure you get these notes and crossword if you've missed class!
  • Did you miss today's test? See me ASAP! Read your handouts thoroughly, and then read these:
  • Type up your essay in good copy
    • It was due in via Office 365 Share by Thursday, April 11.
    • Follow the checklist!
    • If possible, add in your two bonus appositives and two bonus subordinate clauses. Don't bolden or highlight the entire sentence!

  • Finish your second group of freewill and determinism notes for pp. 117 to 120:
    • For each page, create two questions on the most important issues on that page. YOU have to decide what's most important. Then, answer each question with a 2-3 sentence answer.
      • 8 questions total + 8 full answers = /16 marks
  • Here are the journal entries (so far) for Round 2:
    • 12. If you could choose the sex and physical appearance of your soon-to-be-born child, would you do it? Why or why not?Would it make a difference if we were talking about diseases like Parkinson’s?
    • 11. A close friend, Jane, asks – and genuinely wants – your opinion about something, but your opinion is one that she is likely to find quite painful. For example, Jane is an artist, and asks for your honest estimate of her chances of being successful. You think Jane is an atrocious artist who hasn’t the slightest chance of success. What would you do?
    • 10. You are the captain of a 20-crew submarine that’s lying on the seabed. Its engines are destroyed. Rescue is three days away. There’s only enough air for five people over that three-day span. What do you decide? What’s the rationale for your decision? 
    • 9. Lawyers take a solemn oath to defend the interests of their clients. They must not suppress information either. If you were the lawyer, would you withhold information that implicates your client in a violent crime, even if you might be disbarred?
