October Sky: Finish reading Chp. 8 of October Sky and continue the Part 2 study guide with as much detail as possible. (It's worth 10 marks. I want detail, not prettiness! Also, study your vocabulary!)

Journal Round-Up #2;

Choose the best 5 journals from # 9-17 (see below). Then choose the best from that 5 and start typing up a good copy paragraph. The "Best 5" and the "good copy of 1" are both due Friday.

Political philosophy: Make sure you get the notes on socialism, liberalism, and conservatism.

10. You are the captain of a 20-crew submarine that’s lying on the seabed. Its engines are destroyed. Rescue is three days away. There’s only enough air for five people over that three-day span. What do you decide? What’s the rationale for your decision?
9. Lawyers take a solemn oath to defend the interests of their clients. They must not suppress information either. If you were the lawyer, would you withhold information that implicates your client in a violent crime, even if you might be disbarred?

Test alert! Be ready for Friday's Part 2 test. Study your notes on the themes of TGG, as well as the notes on colour and the American Dream.

The Great Gatsby: For Thursday, read Chp. 6 and finish one page of question notes. These notes are due on Friday.

Ask five questions that focus on the key events, characters, symbols, and themes of the novel. One question must start with a "Why" and one must start with "How". I want to see proper sentences (3-6), thoughtful detail, and perhaps even some quotations and/or speculation.
