English 10 Blocks 1/2: Homework for Monday

English 12 Block 3: Homework for Monday
  • By Tuesday, we'll be ready for the following essay topics
    • 1st topic:
      • A) Compare and contrast “Grandmother’s Victory” and “Riding the Hyphen”.
    • 2nd topic:
      • B) Compare and contrast “I Have A Dream” and “Tyranny of the Clock”.
  • For Monday, complete the following:
    • 1. Complete two T-charts, venn diagrams or mind maps - one for each of the two topics. 
    • 2. Complete your "quotes" assignment for Thursday Monday. Write out two quotes for each of the four essays. 
      • One quote should focus on what the author says, and the other quote should focus on how it's being said. 
      • Blend AND cite all eight quotations.
  • Complete one page of notes for each essay: "Riding the Hyphen" and "I Have a Dream".

English 12 Block 4 Linear: Homework for Tuesday
  • Read Alice Munro's "Boys and Girls" for Tuesday. Be ready for a 10 mark comprehension quiz.
  • Did you miss the quiz on Leo Tolstoy's "How much land does a man need?"? If so, see me soon!
  • Read (and re-read if necessary) Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour". Be ready for a short multiple choice quiz on Tuesday.
    • Re-read your notes on irony, or check out my online notes on irony.
  • If you missed the original assignment, answer the following alternate assignment for Tobias Wolff's "Say Yes":
    • i. What is Tobias Wolff suggesting about racism? [Hint: Is it overt or subtle?] Answer in a full paragraph and explain with examples.
