 English 11

    • If you've missed classes this week, please check your Teams account.
    • We're writing a compare and contrast essay that compares Homer Hickam Jr's October Sky to the 1999 movie version. If you're going to be missing classes this week, try to find a copy of the Jake Gyllenhaal movie and watch it. While you're watching it, take as many notes as possible on the differences and similarities between the two versions. A T-chart titled "Similarities" and "Differences" will help.
      • Can't get access to the movie? Please email me as soon as possible.
      • For Thursday, write two body paragraphs (in rough copy). One should explain (in neutral language) the differences between the two versions of October Sky, while the other should explain the similarities. In both BP's, consider grouping your examples into concepts like plot, characters and theme.
      • For Friday, write the introductory and concluding paragraphs for your essay (in rough copy). The prompt that you're responding to is as follows: Compare and contrast the two versions of October Sky.
      • For Monday (or earlier), email me (via Outlook) the good copy of your essay. Keep in mind the following points:
        • Include a cover page like this;

        • bonus words: Properly use up to six separate vocabulary words from October Sky and I'll give you 1/2 mark each for a total of three points on top of your score out of 60.
    • Read Arthur Miller's The Crucible to p. 32. Read the PPT introduction to the play in Teams.
