- If you've missed classes in the past week, please check the your Teams account. Pay particular attention to the files I've put in the Files tab. Also, check your marks via the link to your right.
- Today we started preparing for a 2nd essay. It's based on the short story "I Go Along", which we read last week. Download the pdf from Teams and review the story. Then do the following for Tuesday:
- study the lesson on blending and citing quotations and this overview;
- identify three quotations for each of the two essay topics (i.e. 2a "going along" and 2b "nonconformity") from p. 13 of the "I Go Along" pdf. Look for quotations that are relevant to the themes of "going along" and "noncomformity";
- create 3 sentences for each essay topic (2 x3 = 6 sentences in total). Each sentence must employ a quotation from above. Provide a citation [e.g. "____" (Peck 5).] .
- Read Act 1 from Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Read the PPT introduction to the play in Teams.
- In preparation for next Friday's punctuation test, review the notes on the following:
- We've finished a compare and contrast essay that compares Homer Hickam Jr's October Sky to the 1999 movie version. Here are last week's steps.
- For Thursday, write two body paragraphs (in rough copy). One should explain (in neutral language) the differences between the two versions of October Sky, while the other should explain the similarities. In both BP's, consider grouping your examples into concepts like plot, characters and theme.
- Use this site for guidance.
- For Friday, write the introductory and concluding paragraphs for your essay (in rough copy). The prompt that you're responding to is as follows: Compare and contrast the two versions of October Sky.
- For Monday (or earlier), email me (via Outlook) the good copy of your essay. Keep in mind the following points:
- Include a cover page like this;
- 12/14 size font;
- standard font choice;
- 1.5 spacing;
- indented paragraphs;
- your anti-thesis paragraph becomes BP1 and your pro-thesis paragraph becomes BP2;
- bonus words: Properly use up to six separate vocabulary words from October Sky and I'll give you 1/2 mark each for a total of three points on top of your score out of 60.
