English 11 Block 1:     

  • *Review your notes on the sentence fragment and the run-on sentence. Then, examine the following sites:
  • *For Tuesday, answer both questions in separate paragraphs:
    • What are the benefits of social media?
      • AND
    • What are the disadvantages of social media?
      • Sample TS: There are many benefits to social media. For instance, ...
      • no line breaks
      • 8-16 sentences
      • TS/Body/CS
      • 2-4 introductory transitions
      • the paragraphs should be neutral and one-sided; don't refer to the other side [yet]
      • avoid I, my, you & your; use us, we, or one instead
      • group your ideas into 3 or 4 body sections
  • Tp prepare yourself for the paragraphs above, watch the following video, Generation Like.
    • Given the information found in the documentary above, create a full-page +| - chart and generate at least 10 examples of the strengths and weaknesses of social media. This will be an important start to our upcoming writing unit.
    • Categorize your examples on each side of the +/- T-chart. Use this website as a guide. Aim for about three categories on each side.
  • Did you miss the Parts of the Sentence test on Tue., May 10 or the Fiction Terms test on May 13? See me ASAP!
